He was with his by little entourage group, he went to port Rochefort as two French ships where moored their thus making it possible for him to go to America, the issue was that he first had to get past the British ships patrolling in the area. However as the hours ticked by and also with the enemy closing in, Napoleon choose to surrender to himself to Captain Frederick Maitland of HMS Bellerophon.
  • It was on 15 July 1815 that Napoleon went on the British Royal Naval ship HMS Bellerophon, he was surprised to be treated as a VIP guest. Napoleon was given the prized Captain’s after-cabin, he soon entrenched himself inside it. He met Admiral Hotham that day. By repute it was possible that Napoleon met Wellington on the Bellerophon as Wellington was located in France at this time.
  • Whilst aboard Napoleon wined and dined with his hosts, he asked many questions on how the Royal Navy ship and crew operated, along with wishing to know about specific British customs. It was during the morning time that the Bellerophon’s detachment of Royal Marines were up on deck & they lined up a captain’s guard. Napoleon personally inspected them & famously said "How much might be done with a hundred thousand such soldiers as these." This flattering remark made the Royal Marines present & since overjoyed.
  • Bellerophon quicky sailed to Torbay which is located along the south coast of England, as soon as it arrived the news was revealed that Napoleon was onboard. Many smaller sized boats quickly came & overwhelmed the ship regularly as the people where desperate just to get a glimpse of the most known man around the globe. It was in Plymouth, on 31 July, that Napoleon received his most distinguished guests  Admiral Lord Keith who was the Commander of the Channel Fleet) along with Major General Sir Henry Bunbury who was the Under-Secretary for War, it was he who personally told Napoleon of the decision to exile him & ship him off out the way to St. Helena.
