Introduction

An original oil on canvas by the acclaimed contemporary British realist painter Trinidad Ball (b.1961), completed in 2012 and titled Together.

Depicting two figures walking across an expansive shoreline at low tide beneath a luminous sky, the composition is a contemplative study of companionship, atmosphere and light. Rather than depicting a specific location, Ball creates a timeless landscape that invites quiet reflection through its restrained palette, subtle tonal harmony and remarkable sense of space.

Retaining its original titled artist's label, original gallery backing board and painted gallery frame, the work benefits from excellent documentary provenance and is presented ready for immediate display.

Catalogue Note

Together exemplifies Trinidad Ball's mature approach to contemporary British realism. Reducing the landscape to its essential elements of sea, sky and shoreline, Ball demonstrates an exceptional understanding of composition, allowing broad horizontal planes and delicate tonal transitions to create a profound sense of tranquillity. Thin oil glazes produce remarkable luminosity, while restrained brushwork dissolves the distant horizon into atmosphere rather than detail.

The painting recalls the long tradition of British coastal painting while remaining unmistakably contemporary in its refined simplicity and emotional restraint. The two distant figures provide a subtle human presence, transforming an ordinary shoreline into a meditation on companionship, memory and the restorative qualities of the natural world.

Executed with technical confidence and sensitivity, Together represents the qualities for which Trinidad Ball has become internationally recognised: refined observation, harmonious colour relationships and an exceptional ability to convey atmosphere through light, space and tone.

Condition Report

Presented in acceptable original condition.

The original oil surface remains stable and well preserved, retaining its delicate glazes, refined tonal transitions and subtle atmospheric palette. No visible evidence of restoration, overpainting or structural instability is apparent under normal inspection. There are a small number of light surface scuffs and fine scratches consistent with age and careful handling.

The original painted wooden gallery frame displays only minor age-related wear, including occasional scuffs, small paint losses and discreet edge knocks. The reverse retains both the original titled artist's label and the original Ingo Fincke Gallery & Framers backing board, providing valuable documentary evidence supporting the painting's history and provenance.

The painting presents well and is ready for immediate display.
