🏇 “Londolozi” Horse & Jockey Oil Painting by Sue Wingate RCA (1985)

🖌 Subject & Medium

A stunning large oil on canvas by celebrated equestrian artist Sue Wingate RCA (1947–2016), titled “Londolozi”. This dynamic artwork captures the exhilarating moment of a chestnut horse and jockey leaping a steeplechase fence, showcasing the strength, precision, and beauty of competitive horse racing.

Presented in its original gilt frame, complete with a titled nameplate, this piece is a captivating statement for collectors, equestrian lovers, and fine art enthusiasts.

🎨 Composition & Technique

The composition bursts with energy: a powerful chestnut horse arcs over the fence mid-jump, its mane flowing and muscles flexing, while the jockey in bold black-and-white checkered silks leans forward in perfect harmony.

Sue Wingate’s colour palette combines rich chestnut browns, crisp blacks and whites, and soft greens and blues, creating a lifelike yet vivid scene. Her brushwork is masterful, blending smooth strokes for the horse’s sleek body, precise lines for the jockey’s gear, and expressive touches in the grass, fence, and background. The style fuses realism with dynamic motion, pulling the viewer into the intensity of the racetrack moment.
