- Brief biography of the artist John Davison Liddell (1859 - 1942). John Davidson Liddell a known British artist who specialised in marine & also landscape paintings, he was born during the Victorian era in the year 1859 and was from the north east of England in the town North Shields which is in the borough of North-Tyne side in Tyne & Wear. He painted his artworks using mainly oils. He exhibited his paintings in his native North east area & loved to paint various ships along the river Tyne which was by his birthplace. He died during WW2 in 1942. A selection of his works can be found in the South Shields Museum & Art Gallery also Northumberland County Council Libraries also Quadrant, North Tyneside Council. His paintings have sold at various auctions around the world like Bonhams.

- Subject beautiful marine scene of a steam tug boat leaving the Tyne going Tynemouth Lighthouse. Black smoke trail coming out of the funnel, steaming along on choppy seas. Below seagulls are flying very low just above some wooden wreckage. To the rifght in the distance a red sail trawler sailing ship can be viewed. Further back with a piers & shoreline harbour buildings in the distance with further seagulls flying high. Above with mainly overcast cloudy sky with some areas of light blue coming through.
- A rather nice display size with the frame being cm 46.5 high and 66 cm wide.
