Returns & Refund Policy

Cheshire Antiques Consultant LTD®

Shopify Return Rules
Where Shopify's automated Return & Cancellation Rules are displayed during the purchase or return process, those rules form part of this policy. In the event of any inconsistency, your statutory consumer rights always take precedence.

Consumer Cancellation Rights

If you are purchasing as a private individual (not in the course of business), you have the right to cancel your order within 14 days of delivery in accordance with the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

You must notify us in writing within 14 days of receiving the work. You then have a further 14 days to return the work.

Refunds will be issued within 14 days of receipt of the returned work (or evidence of return), subject to inspection.

Returned works must be received in the same condition as delivered, as verified against condition documentation and photographs taken prior to dispatch.

Unless the artwork is faulty, damaged, or materially not as described, buyers are responsible for the cost of return shipping, including appropriate packaging, insurance and trackable delivery. Risk in returned goods remains with the buyer until safe receipt by us.

Where multiple works are sold as a group at an agreed aggregate price, we may treat the transaction as a single contract for pricing purposes. Requests for partial return or cancellation will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

For international orders (including the United States), customs duties, import taxes, brokerage fees, storage charges and similar costs are not refundable.

Refunds will be made using the original payment method. Where payment was made by bank transfer, refunds will be returned to the originating account only.

Refunds are processed in GBP only. We are not responsible for exchange rate differences or international banking fees.

Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 or the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Condition of Returned Works

Returned works must be in the same condition as supplied.

Buyers may inspect works as they would in a gallery setting; however, handling beyond what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the work may result in a reasonable deduction for diminished value.

Returns must be securely packaged and sent using a fully insured and trackable courier service. We cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage occurring during return transit.

30-Day Collector Confidence Guarantee

Separately from statutory cancellation rights, if within 30 days of delivery you provide written evidence from a recognised independent expert or authority in the relevant field, acceptable to us acting reasonably, that a work has been materially misdescribed or incorrectly attributed, we will refund the purchase price upon safe return of the work in the condition supplied.

This guarantee is separate from and in addition to your statutory consumer rights.

International Returns

Buyers outside the United Kingdom (including the United States, European Union, Canada and Australia) are responsible for:

  • Return shipping costs
  • Import duties, VAT/GST or sales tax
  • Customs brokerage charges
  • Any demurrage or storage fees
  • Compliance with export and re-import formalities

The buyer acts as importer of record and is responsible for compliance with customs requirements in the destination country.

Refunds are issued only after safe receipt and inspection of the returned work in the United Kingdom.

Damage in Transit

Buyers must inspect works immediately upon delivery.

We ask buyers to notify us within 48 hours where possible to assist with any carrier claim together with photographic evidence. This request does not affect your statutory rights.

Failure to notify us within this timeframe may affect our ability to assist, subject always to your statutory rights.

Transit insurance covers the declared value of the artwork itself (being the painted or artistic surface). Frames are not insured separately unless specifically agreed in writing prior to dispatch.

Non-Returnable Items

  • Commissioned works
  • Bespoke or custom framing
  • Non-refundable reservation deposits where expressly agreed in writing before payment.
  • Purchases made through third-party marketplaces are subject to the return policies and buyer protections of the relevant platform in addition to any applicable statutory rights.

Where a discretionary or negotiated discount has been agreed, returns outside statutory rights may not be accepted.

Refused or Undeliverable Shipments

Where delivery is refused, customs clearance is not completed, or delivery fails due to incorrect information provided by the buyer, reasonable return shipping, storage, customs and associated administrative costs may be deducted from any refund due.

Shipping Returns

Once we receive your cancellation notice, we will provide return instructions, including the appropriate return address, recommended courier requirements and any customs documentation necessary for international returns.

Failure to follow return instructions may result in delays, additional costs, or refusal of the return.

We do not guarantee receipt of items returned without using the return instructions provided by us, or without appropriate tracking and insurance.
