- In the foreground your focus is first drawn to the passenger ferry Claughton that is teaming along in front facing right on relative choppy waters of the River Mersey, further back is the impressive view of the passenger cargo ship Alca in side profile facing left with its single funnel showing iconic Letter Y with black smoke coming out. The ship has 3 tall masts. The name of the ship is shown along the bow, along with ensign flags hoisted. Further back are the iconic Royal Liver building and close by the Liverpool parish church, Our Lady and Saint Nicolas. The Pier head and the port of Liverpool buildings , you can see the green domed top further back along on the right side. There are also some birds seagulls flying cross the water. Above with mainly dark overcast rain clouds sky which rather enhances the atmosphere within this painting.

Subsequent owner and service history during WW2 date 11/1940, the Alca was requisitioned bt the Admirality to be used an a minesweeper throughout World War 2 & was officially released from that duty in 1946. Fate status broken up, taken to Preston 21 April 1955 for breaking by T.W. Ward.
- Yeoward Line was started by the Yoeward Brothers in the late end of the 19th century believed to be in the year 1894, they inauguarted their first shipping service in the year 1899, the marine shipping service they offered was for regular passenger & cargo services operating from Liverpool. The shipping routes offered where from Liverpool to Spain, Lisbon in Portugal also Madeira & the Canary Islands. Yoeward line became well known around the world for there amazing passenger service. In the early 1900s the Yeoward Line started operating as fruit suppliers and their steamers were adapted for the carriage of bananas from the Canaries. The company grew quickly they build a reputation for providing great accommodation in their ships for passengers. The company was originally known as Yoeward Bros & Bonny because of the house flag they have as the Y and B letters are shown on the flag.
- Then in 1920 they created Yeoward Line Ltd as this was for their ship owning actities which carried on until the mid 1950's. The company still exists today as Yeoward (Shipping) Ltd, a member of the Yeoward group in Liverpool, and is registered as ship and forwarding agents. For almost half a century, the Yeoward Line was one of the best advertised shipping companies. They have eyecatching vibrant posters along with other advertising methods placed their ships among the most recognisable in the Mersey. Their vessels also had very noticeable funnels as they had red, yellow, red bands, which echos the company’s Spanish connections. The sailings of the Yeoward Line ended in 1954.
- The Ferry boat Claughton Shipbuilder was Cammell, Laird & Co Ltd & it was built in the year 1930. The Gross register tonnage was 487. Type of ship passenger ferry, port belonging to Liverpool. Claughton was the last operational Mersey steam ferry & operated on the river from 1930 to 1962.
