🪷 Chinese Imperial Style Porcelain Vases – Yellow Ground, Pink Chrysanthemums, Signed Pair

🖌️ Subject & Medium

A beautifully matched pair of Chinese porcelain vases, each hand-painted with delicate pink chrysanthemums and blue lotus flowers against a glowing Imperial yellow ground glaze. Rich in color and symbolism, these vases reflect the refined tradition of Chinese Imperial-inspired design, dated to the 1970s. A standout pair for display or collecting.

🎨 Composition & Technique

These vases feature a timeless form with flared necks, rounded shoulders, and stable circular bases, offering a balanced and elegant silhouette.

The surface is intricately hand-painted with symbolic florals:

  • 🌸 Chrysanthemums, associated with longevity, elegance, and endurance, especially in autumn

  • 🪷🔵 Lotus flowers, symbols of purity, renewal, and spiritual awakening, rising from the water

These floral motifs are beautifully rendered in tones of pink, green, orange, and lavender, layered atop a rich Imperial yellow glaze—a color historically reserved for the emperor. This creates a striking contrast and luxurious visual effect.

The artistry includes traditional Chinese brushwork, careful layering, shading, and high-temperature glaze firing, giving the vases a smooth, glossy finish with fine textural depth. Crafted from high-fired porcelain, each vase has a refined weight and quality feel.

🖋️ The base of each vase is signed with a red enamel seal mark in traditional hanzi characters, enhancing their authenticity.

📏 Dimensions  of each Vase:

  • Height: 20 cm

  • Width: 11 cm

  • Base Depth: 6 cm

Perfect as a centerpiece or elegant accent pair for mantels, consoles, or display shelves.

🏺 Signed Seal Mark Interpretation

The red seal reads: 榮華堂製 (Róng Huá Táng Zhì)

  • 榮華 (Róng Huá): “Glory and Splendor” – likely the studio or kiln name

  • 堂 (Táng): “Hall” or “Studio”

  • 製 (Zhì): “Made”

🧧 Translation: “Made by Ronghua Hall”

📌 Context & Significance

This is a hall mark in seal script, applied in red enamel, often seen on porcelain pieces that emulate Qing or Republic-era styles. Though not imperial originals, these late 20th-century pieces were made with reverence for tradition and fine artistry.

🏛️ Provenance

Acquired from a private museum collection, these vases are believed to date to the late 1970s, reflecting a high-quality Imperial-style revival period in Chinese porcelain.
