This devotional image combines two distinct expressions of sacred light.
The circular halo or auréole behind Christ’s head signifies holiness. The larger surround of elongated rays forms a radiant glory representing the outward revelation of divine illumination.
Christ’s raised hand identifies the subject as Christ Blessing or Christ Teaching. The iconography belongs to a longstanding Christian tradition found throughout medieval, Renaissance and Baroque religious art.
Because the composition does not contain a visible Sacred Heart, crown of thorns or Passion wounds, it should not be catalogued specifically as the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The reverse demonstrates the relationship between the raised image and the comparatively thin brass support. The plaque appears to have been embossed or pressed in a workshop rather than cast as a heavy solid-bronze sculpture.

The brass exhibits darkened oxidation, rubbing, scratches, surface abrasions and naturally occurring green verdigris. The verdigris is concentrated within the recessed areas of the hair, beard, drapery and spaces separating the radiating rays.
The projecting sunburst displays minor age-related irregularities and historic edge wear expected from its exposed construction.
The original suspension loop remains present. The plaque has not been heavily polished, allowing its historic surface and devotional character to remain visible.
