Cheshire Antiques Consultant LTD Returns and Refunds

Returns & Refund Policy

Cheshire Antiques Consultant LTDĀ®

Last Updated: 6 November 2026

We are committed to providing clear and fair purchasing arrangements for collectors acquiring fine art, antiques and decorative works from Cheshire Antiques Consultant LTDĀ®.

This policy explains our arrangements for cancellations, returns, refunds, damaged goods, international transactions and our additional Collector Confidence Guarantee.

Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts or otherwise affects statutory consumer rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

Shopify Return Rules

Where Shopify's automated Return and Cancellation Rules are displayed during the purchase or return process, those rules should be read together with this policy.

Where any inconsistency arises, applicable statutory consumer rights take precedence.

Any additional voluntary return arrangements offered through Shopify will apply according to their stated terms.

Consumer Cancellation Rights

Where you purchase as a consumer under a qualifying distance contract, you generally have the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after receiving the goods, subject to the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and any applicable exceptions.

You may exercise this right by informing Cheshire Antiques Consultant LTDĀ® of your decision to cancel through a clear statement within the applicable cancellation period.

You may notify us by email or another appropriate method permitted by law.

Following cancellation, you must normally return the goods within 14 days after notifying us, unless we have agreed to collect them.

We will provide the appropriate return address and practical instructions for returning the artwork safely.

Where a statutory cancellation right applies, we will refund the payments required by law, including any applicable standard outbound delivery charges.

Additional delivery charges arising from your choice of a more expensive delivery service need not be refunded where permitted by law.

Refunds will be made within the applicable statutory timeframe.

Where permitted by law, we may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back or you have supplied evidence of having sent them back, whichever occurs first.

Refunds will normally be made using the original payment method unless you expressly agree otherwise and incur no fee as a result.

Condition of Returned Works

We ask purchasers to handle artworks and antiques with appropriate care and to return them using suitable protective packaging.

Consumers may inspect goods to establish their nature, characteristics and functioning, as they would reasonably be permitted to do in a physical gallery or retail setting.

Where handling goes beyond what is necessary for that purpose, a reasonable deduction for diminished value may be made where permitted by applicable law.

The fact that an artwork has been unpacked or reasonably inspected does not, by itself, remove a statutory cancellation right.

Where reasonably possible, original packaging should be retained and reused for the return.

For valuable or fragile works, we recommend a reputable tracked courier or specialist fine art transport service with appropriate transit insurance.

Responsibility for loss or damage during return transportation will be determined according to the circumstances, the applicable contractual arrangements and relevant law.

Return Shipping Costs

Where you exercise a statutory change-of-mind cancellation right, you may be responsible for the direct cost of returning the goods where this responsibility was properly communicated before the contract was concluded and applicable law permits.

For large, fragile or unusually sized artworks that cannot normally be returned by post, return transportation may require specialist courier arrangements.

Where required by law, appropriate information concerning the estimated cost of returning such goods will be provided before purchase.

Where goods are faulty, materially misdescribed or otherwise fail to conform to the contract, return costs and remedies will be handled in accordance with applicable consumer protection legislation.

Nothing in this section transfers to the consumer any cost or responsibility that the law requires us to bear.

30-Day Collector Confidence Guarantee

Separately from statutory cancellation rights, Cheshire Antiques Consultant LTDĀ® offers an additional 30-Day Collector Confidence Guarantee.

Where, within 30 days of delivery, you provide written evidence from a recognised independent expert or authority in the relevant field, acceptable to us acting reasonably, demonstrating that a work has been materially misdescribed or incorrectly attributed, we will refund the purchase price upon safe return of the work in the condition supplied.

This voluntary guarantee is separate from and additional to your statutory consumer rights.

The 30-day period and evidential requirements do not restrict any longer or additional rights or remedies available under applicable law.

International Returns

We supply artworks to collectors in the United Kingdom and internationally, including the United States, European Union, Canada and Australia.

International orders are generally supplied on a Delivered at Place (DAP) basis unless otherwise agreed in writing.

International returns may involve additional requirements concerning:

  • Return transportation and insurance
  • Export and re-import documentation
  • Customs declarations
  • Import duties, VAT, GST or other taxes
  • Customs brokerage and administrative fees
  • Storage or handling charges

Responsibility for these costs will depend upon the reason for return, the agreed delivery terms and applicable law.

Duties, taxes and charges paid directly to foreign customs authorities or independent third parties may not be recoverable from Cheshire Antiques Consultant LTDĀ®.

Where we are legally required to refund a particular payment or bear a particular cost, we will comply with that obligation.

International purchasers are encouraged to contact us before arranging a return so that appropriate customs and transport procedures can be discussed.

Where permitted by law, we may withhold a statutory cancellation refund until the returned goods are received or evidence of dispatch is provided, whichever occurs first.

Damage in Transit

Purchasers are encouraged to inspect their artworks and packaging promptly upon delivery.

Where visible damage or a delivery discrepancy is identified, we request notification as soon as reasonably practicable, preferably within 48 hours.

Photographs of the artwork, frame, packaging and any damage may assist with the investigation of a courier or insurance claim.

We recommend retaining the original packaging where reasonably possible until the matter has been assessed.

The requested 48-hour notification period is intended to assist with courier investigations and does not constitute a deadline for exercising statutory consumer rights.

Failure to notify us within 48 hours does not automatically invalidate a legitimate claim.

Transit insurance is subject to the applicable policy terms, conditions, limits and exclusions.

For framed paintings, insurance may distinguish between the artwork itself and its accompanying frame or glazing.

Frames may not be insured separately unless additional cover has been expressly agreed in writing before dispatch.

Insurance exclusions do not remove our statutory responsibilities concerning delivery damage, conformity of goods or consumer remedies.

Non-Returnable Items and Exceptions

Certain goods may fall within statutory exceptions to the usual distance-selling cancellation right.

These may include goods made to the consumer's specifications or clearly personalised, where the relevant legal conditions are satisfied.

Commissioned artworks and bespoke framing arrangements will be assessed according to their individual contractual terms and the applicable statutory requirements.

A negotiated or discounted purchase price does not, by itself, remove statutory cancellation rights.

Reservation deposits and advance payments are subject to the applicable contractual arrangements and consumer protection legislation.

A deposit described as non-refundable will not be retained where doing so would conflict with statutory cancellation rights or other mandatory legal requirements.

Purchases through third-party marketplaces may also be subject to the relevant platform's contractual arrangements and buyer protection policies.

Nothing in this section removes statutory remedies for faulty, misdescribed or non-conforming goods.

Negotiated and Multi-Work Transactions

Where a discretionary discount or individually negotiated price has been agreed in writing, that price forms part of the relevant sale agreement.

Where multiple works are purchased together at an agreed aggregate price, the contractual allocation of that price and any request for partial return will be considered according to the nature of the transaction and applicable law.

Statutory cancellation and consumer remedies will not be restricted solely because a discounted or combined purchase price was agreed.

Refused or Undeliverable Shipments

Where delivery is refused, customs clearance is not completed, or delivery fails because of incorrect information supplied by the purchaser, additional costs may arise.

These may include return shipping, storage, customs handling or other charges reasonably incurred.

Responsibility for such costs and any deductions from a refund will be determined according to the agreed contractual terms, the circumstances of the return and applicable law.

No deduction will be made where doing so would conflict with statutory cancellation, refund or other mandatory consumer rights.

Shipping Returns

Customers wishing to return an artwork should contact Cheshire Antiques Consultant LTDĀ® as soon as reasonably practicable.

Following notification, we will provide appropriate return instructions, including the return address, recommended courier arrangements and any relevant customs documentation.

Because original artworks, antique frames and decorative objects may be fragile or valuable, we strongly recommend secure protective packaging and suitable tracked transportation.

Prior written authorisation is not a condition of exercising a valid statutory cancellation right.

Failure to follow a preferred administrative instruction or use a recommended courier does not automatically invalidate statutory consumer rights.

Customers remain responsible for taking reasonable care when handling and returning artworks, subject to applicable law.

Refund Currency and Payment Method

Refunds will normally be made using the original payment method, unless otherwise expressly agreed in accordance with applicable law.

Where payment was made by bank transfer, we may request appropriate verification of the account to which the refund is to be made.

Our sales and accounting records are maintained in GBP.

Where a payment involves currency conversion, exchange rate differences or independent bank charges may arise.

Such differences do not reduce any refund amount that Cheshire Antiques Consultant LTDĀ® is legally required to provide.

We will not deduct our own payment processing charges from statutory consumer refunds.

Relationship with Our Terms and Policies

This Returns and Refund Policy should be read together with our Terms of Service , Shipping Policy and Disclaimer & Catalogue Information .

Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts or otherwise affects statutory consumer rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
