- Rals ton Gudgeon, a Scottish-born artist. Dudgeon is best known for his paintings of birds and animals, mostly in watercolour. Dudgeon studied at the Glasgow School and in 1933 won the Torrance Memorial Award from the Glasgow Institute.
- Dudgeon was one of Scotland’s leading wildlife artists and in 1936 he was the youngest man ever to be elected to the RAW. He is represented in the Glasgow Art Gallery, the Paisley Art Gallery and the City of Edinburgh Collection.
- The colors are so bold and vibrant, an exceptionally beautiful example of Dudgeon's work.
- The osprey has white or slightly mottled underparts. The long wings are angled, bending at the 'wrist' which has a black patch contrasting with the white wing linings and at a distance it could be mistaken for a large gull.
- This spectacular fish-eating bird of prey is an Amber List species because of its historical decline (due to illegal killing) and low breeding numbers. They are listed as a Schedule 1 species on The Wildlife and Countryside Act.
- As its other common names suggest, the osprey's diet consists almost exclusively of fish. It possesses specialized physical characteristics and exhibits unique behavior to assist in hunting and catching prey.
